My name is Melinda and I live in one of the most beautiful cities in the world, Cape Town, South Africa. I am a self proclaimed bookworm with an ill attempt to resist the escapism that books offer.   I love the smell of books and to escape into the magical world of fiction, while burning scented candles and listening to the pouring rain – it’s one of my favourite things to do.

Some of my favourite authors include Carlos Ruiz Zafón, Daphne du Maurier, Arturo Pérez-Reverte, Alexandre Dumas, Kate Morton, Lucinda Riley, Jane Austen and Jamie Ford.  My preference is literary fiction, but I frequently read across genres.

If you like my posts, please do follow me and I hope we will have a lot of bookish thoughts and discussions to share with each other.

    • Thanks Kerri! I will sure check out your post.

  • Most people wonder why I don’t have a Kindle, (I sometimes do to) then I realise how much I love the smell of books.

    • The Kindle to be is more of a supplement to my reading life and makes it easier to “carry books with you”. You should invest in one, you never know when you might find yourself held up (and then you can sneak a few pages) or even when you find yourself in bad company 😀

  • This looks like a great blog. I can’t wait to read more.

    • Thank you. I hope you find a book (or 2) that you would like to read!

  • Just stopping by (you kindly commented on my blog) and so happy to find another literary fiction lover! Your site is absolutely gorgeous- so serene. Really makes me want to curl up with a book!

  • Hi Melinda, thanks for stopping by prelovedbooksblog.com and discovering Kate Atkinson! Have to laugh at your comment about reading in the pouring rain – are you sure you’re not Irish?! Guess what our weather is like this fine October day …:(

    • I bet it’s raining! 🙂
Raining weather is my favourite time to read, I can sit and listen to it for hours. I live in Cape Town where it just loves to rain, we normally have wet winters. Luckily it’s spring time now….

  • Just happened to run into your blog. You have got a beautiful space running here. Loved some of your write-ups. Reviews are very subtle. I guess I will be hanging around here a lot. 🙂 Great work.

    • Thanks for stopping by and for your kind words. I hope you will find a book you like on here! 🙂

  • Thanks for stopping by my blog. Your blog looks great. I am a new Bloglovin’ follower.

    • You’re welcome. Thank you for the follow!

  • eloisej

I’m so glad you mentioned your love of classical music! That’s so rare anymore. Mozart is my personal favorite but I also love Bethoven and others. 🙂

    • Hi Eloise! I will check out your blog. Thanks for stopping by.

  • Thanks for stopping by my blog and for following me. I’m so glad you found me! Your blog is gorgeous! I’m happy to follow you back and read your musings! 🙂

  • I once saw an exhibit of photographs of Cape Town. It was a seedier view with thieves and… I felt it represented the soul of the place. And thus I wonder about your statement: “I am a self proclaimed bookworm with an ill attempt to resist the escapism that books offer,” where you imply that while Cape Town is beautiful there must be escapism? Is there something you are not telling us?

    • Cape Town is by all means beautiful and it’s perfect for escapism – especially the beautiful nature. However, books offer a different kind of escapism (of the imagination) 🙂

  • Hi Melinda, nice to meet you and your beautiful blog. So pretty!
Thank you for following our blog. I hope you enjoy the stories of our journey, both inner and outer. And do please feel free to join the conversation.
    Blessings, Alison
